The Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) is looking for a daily news reporter and editor to cover the HR technology field . You’ll assign, report, write, edit, display and promote content in a way that engages and inspires readers and, in turn, attracts readers to our website. We are looking for candidates who love technology and regularly read about the latest tech trends, and who also have experience in digital reporting and storytelling and can pilot new ways of delivering information online. Your duties also will include creating and curating a weekly technology e-newsletter, as well as working closely with our creative services team to develop video, audio, infographics, interactive charts and other media to explain the news and illustrate articles. You’ll get to know SHRM content, activities and programs and develop and maintain relationships with third-party content providers. You’ll travel as needed to report and write from SHRM and other conferences when relevant.

 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Report and write news and feature articles about HR technology.

  • Assign and edit freelancers’ articles.

  • Post articles to the SHRM.org website.

  • Use digital reporting and storytelling skills to share information in innovative ways.

  • Update landing pages on the SHRM.org website.

  • Update SHRM accounts on social media platforms

  • Collaborate with Creative Services to illustrate articles.

  • Create a weekly HR Technology newsletter.

  • Attend and report on HR technology conferences.

  • Other duties as needed or required.

 

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
We are looking for reporters with experience developing a “beat:” growing your knowledge of a narrow field or industry, developing sources, finding and utilizing freelance writers, understanding an issue, and being able to provide insights, guides and analysis of the trends within it.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
A bachelor’s degree in journalism, English or a related field. We’d love to see applicants who also have a Human Resources degree or certification or who have completed a course of study in HR. Great writers with a track record who hold business degrees are also welcome. We need you to have five to seven years of experience reporting and writing regularly for an online publication. All applicants must provide samples of their work and/or link to an online portfolio.
