If your passion is to produce journalism that makes a difference in the community you serve, then you may have what it takes to be the next editor of The Selma Times-Journal.

The Selma Times-Journal is an award-winning daily newspaper that serves Selma, the Queen City of the Black Belt region of Alabama. Your challenge will be to produce through your staff of four general assignment reporters quality content that accurately and fairly depicts the lives of the diverse population that calls Selma and Dallas County home.

Candidates must be able to not only manage content development in our print, digital and social channels, but also make a significant contribution to the production of the daily newspaper while training and teaching young journalists the craft of high quality community journalism.

Applicants should have the desire to live and work in Selma, make a contribution outside their work environment through community service, and be willing to pay their “civic dues.”

Consideration will be given to those who have a degree in journalism, experience in managing a fast-paced newsroom and functioning within an organizational structure where the leaders are expected to lead by their actions and not just by their words. Candidates must also be fluent in working with Adobe Creative Suite, have extensive experience in newspaper design and an understanding of how print, digital and social platforms work together to engage readers in various ways.

Should they desire, the candidate who is chosen will be immediately placed into a publisher-training program where they will be taught how to effectively manage other areas of newspaper operations, helping pave the way for the next step in their career.

The Selma Times-Journal (http://www.selmatimesjournal.com) is part of Boone Newspapers, Inc. (http://www.boonenewspapers.com), a privately held community newspaper company with more than 80 newspapers and 30 community magazines in 12 states.  We offer excellent compensation opportunities, quality healthcare and other benefits.
