Description:

We’re looking for someone who wants to change the world — well, at least our little slice of it.

To do that, you’ve got to care. And you’ve got to persuade others to care.

It won’t be easy. You can’t turn in a chronological report of what a bunch of city council or school board members talked about at a meeting. That won’t cut it — not even close.

What you’ve got to do is sit through that meeting and decide what really matters. What is going to affect average folks? What should they care about? And how do you tell them in a way to make them pay attention?

  • You’re a journalist.
  • You don’t do it for the money.
  • You don’t do it to entertain yourself.
  • You do it because it matters.

(Though, we will of course pay you for hard work and hope you have at least a little fun on the job)

When you dig up information on morale issues in the police department, the story you write can start a serious change.

When you tell the story of a family struggling with the sickness of a child, your story can persuade others to help improve their situation.

To do all this you’ve got to be really good at a few things:

Getting to know the community, from the movers and shakers on down to the little guys.

Being creative. We’re not interested in the same old, same old.

Knowing what matters. We’re going to trust you to make most of those decisions, so you’ve got to make the right ones.

And it’d be a huge plus if you speak Spanish fluently because almost a quarter of the residents here in Hall County are Latino.

The bottom line is we're a part of our community, sharing its struggles and its triumphs.

And we want you to be in the middle of all that.

A few other things you might want to know:

  • We’re a small daily serving Hall County and Northeast Georgia.
  • There is a “food desk.” Sometimes there are doughnuts there.
  • The job is full-time, and though flexible, does demand you show up to the office most days.

If you think you've got something to contribute to our team, send a cover letter, resume and at least three clips to hr@gainesvilletimes.com.
