This is your chance to shine in the sunshine.

The News-Press in Fort Myers Florida is looking for a watchdog - an ambitious, self-starter who is passionate about making a difference and holding public officials accountable. This search is about finding the right, ambitious, assertive, hard-news journalist who is interested in driving positive change and telling investigative stories in innovative ways.

In this role, you will cover a city that is trying to reinvent itself while wrestling with the challenges of crime and poverty, growth and development and strained public finances. The best candidates will develop a deep understanding of the dynamics of the city, the residents who live here and what they believe is important. You’ll develop enterprising stories that transcend government bureaucracy and political agendas.

Experience with public records is required. Database or computer-assisted reporting skills will set applicants apart from others. Understanding how to use social media and how to tell multimedia stories is a must.

We’re looking for candidates who have at least two years of professional experience; strong internships will be considered.
