Montana is known for its abundant and diverse fish, wildlife, and parks. Life here is all about experiencing the outdoors, year around. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) is looking for a motivated and highly-qualified person to lead efforts in communicating our department's work in managing these incredible resources to a wide range of people. The ideal candidate will have experience in both traditional media (press releases, newspaper articles, broadcast journalism) as well as new media (video production, social media, podcasts). The person will also have experience in strategic communication planning and responding to communication crises.

This position is critical in FWP's efforts to communicate with the public about its work to conserve and manage the resources that contribute to Montana's renowned high quality of life.

Job Duties:

This position leads the communication effort, particularly as it relates to our main platforms: press releases, website, video production, regulations production, and social media. This requires quickly writing effective news releases, as well as providing key guidance to FWP staff on online, video, and social media content. This person must be able to efficiently and creatively communicate complex scientific and management information in simple language that makes sense to ordinary Montanans. Working as a team member and a team leader is essential, as this person will work with people across the state and throughout the department. Understanding and having a passion for Montana's outdoor resources is critical.

Minimum Qualifications:

Masters degree in communication or journalism and four or more years of relevant experience in the field. Individuals with a background in natural resource management and/or reporting are preferred. Other combinations of education and experience which could provide such knowledge, skills and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.
