Public Affairs Writer/Associate

Reporting to the Director of Public Affairs, the Public Affairs Writer/Associate serves as an integral member of the Law School’s Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs department, which promotes greater visibility and understanding of the school’s unique strengths and leadership in legal education.

This position will research, write and edit a variety of news and feature content that showcases faculty scholarship, major events and newsworthy institutional initiatives. She/he will also draft executive communications, including remarks, speeches and presentations.

Demonstrating a deep understanding of legal affairs and public policy, the Public Affairs Writer/Associate will work with faculty as both scholars and public intellectuals to translate their complex ideas and research into language that is accessible to sophisticated lay audiences. This includes assisting professors with editing and placing opinion pieces and letters to the editor.

In addition, the Public Affairs Writer will work with the director to field media inquiries, pitch stories to experts, and participate in special communication and public affairs projects and assignments throughout the year.

The position will cover some Law School events and talks by law professors and high-profile visitors, writing news stories for the web and social media on subjects from national security and human rights to the law and economics of global markets and climate change law.

This position will work collaboratively with departmental colleagues and a broad range of senior administrators.
