WFSU Public Media is PBS, and NPR for Northern Florida and Southern Georgia. WFSU is located in Tallahassee, Florida and is a joint licensee (TV & Radio) of Florida State University. 

 

 Responsibilities

 

  • This position is responsible for the production of daily news and public affairs stories/features for broadcast. May be required to host local programs on occasion, with a focus on local government and events.
  • Research, write report and produce news stories for WFSU-FM programs for local and statewide distribution. Generate ideas and produce coverage emphasis on local news. Adheres to newsroom policy of accuracy, fairness, balance and high production standards. 
  • Keeps current on issues of importance and interest to listeners. 
  • May be asked to work with WFSU news interns to provide production and reporting assistance as necessary. 
  • Provide support for special events coverage as assigned by the WFSU FM News Director, produce special elements for these productions as assigned. 
  • Responsible for editing, posting and formatting stories for news.wfsu.org
 

Qualifications

 
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of at least two years of reporting experience; or a high school diploma/equivalency and six year of experience. (Note: or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)
  • Experience with the ethics, rules, and procedures of journalism. 
  • Experience operating a variety of radio production and remote location equipment. 
  • Experience writing and producing news/feature/public affairs segments for broadcast. 
  • Experience editing and/or proofreading information in various formats. 
  • Knowledge of the standards, principles, trends and practices of radio production. 
  • Knowledge of current media technology and trends. 
  • Adhere to newsroom policy of accuracy, fairness, balance and high production standards. 
  • Adhere to WFSU and FCC standards and policies. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. 
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously. 
  • A valid Florida or Georgia Driver's license or the ability to obtain prior to hire.

Anticipated Salary Range

  

High 30's - low 40’s. Commensurate with experience & qualifications.

 

Pay Plan

  

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.

 

Soft Money Funded Position

  

This is a soft money funded position, with renewal based on available funds and the needs of the University.

 

Criminal Background Check

  

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.
