WEAR-TV is seeking an experienced, hands-on Assistant News Director to drive the day-to-day news operation. The Assistant News Director will work closely with the News Director on strategic planning and corporate protocol. This role will directly oversee reporters and producers while working with the News Director to create and oversee strategic plans, community projects and special events. The winning candidate will have hands on experience and demonstrate superior understanding of targeted coverage, content presentation/showcasing, targeted special reports, audience demographics, digital, social media, promotions, etc.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing reporters and producers, establishing goals and directing the staff that produces 30+ hours of local news weekly
  • Responsible for initiating and managing content delivery on multiple platforms
  • Work closely with the News Director and corporate management on strategic planning and content management
  • Review daily newscasts to ensure quality control and brand compliancy, and subsequently provide feedback to all news staff
  • Collaborate with other managers to develop goal setting, effectively reach of said goals and content planning

Requirements:

  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong writing skills with an emphasis on coaching and motivating producers and reporters
  • Strategic planning and time management a must
  • Must have a working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel, and privacy laws
  • Will bring strong fiscal experience for both operational
  • Must have a proven track records of success in building a winning newscast and/or operation
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple hours of daily newscasts on two stations
  • Must have experience building content across all platforms
