KOMO News4, (Seattle’s ABC Affiliate) and Univision Seattle, (DMA #12), has an immediate opening for News Director. We’re looking for someone with strong leadership skills, exemplary news judgment, strong digital news initiative and a passion for excellence. Responsibilities/Requirements:

  • Primarily responsible for managing the stations' aggressive news operations and all associated platforms (social, digital and emerging platforms), including setting budgets, establishing goals and directing an experienced staff that produces more than 36 hours of local news each week via multiple channels
  • Responsible for initiating and managing content delivery on multiple platforms, including oversight and integration across KOMO TV, KUNS TV, KOMO News radio and komonews.com
  • Work closely with local and corporate management including promotions, operations and engineering, to strengthen the content, philosophy and direction of our news product
  • Review daily newscasts to ensure quality control and brand compliancy, and provide feedback to all news staff
  • Recruiting, hiring and negotiating contracts for news department personnel
  • Collaborate with other managers to develop marketing plans, to establish ratings goals, and to effectively reach said goals
  • Must know how to lead, mentor, and grow a large staff of experienced, professional journalists

Requirements:

  • Must have a strong working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel, and privacy laws
  • You will bring strong fiscal experience for both operational and capital expenditures
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple hours of daily newscasts on multiple stations and must have a proven track record of success in building a winning news organization
  • Must have experience as a manager in major-market local news or on the network level
  • A familiarity with Spanish language news products is beneficial in managing an aggressive Spanish language product
  • Journalism degree and a minimum of ten years experience in news management required
  • Must have proven success as a leader, and a desire to win
