Marine Corps Times Reporter

Marine Corps Times is looking for an experienced reporter to join our ranks to cover the United States Marine Corps. You will cover the culture, careers and combat operations of Marines as well as politics and policy at the Pentagon. You will cover breaking news for our online editions and write enterprising cover stories for our print products. You will regularly visit the Pentagon and bases in the D.C. metro area and also have the opportunity to travel to military installations across the country and report from combat zones.

In addition to being the Military Times newsroom’s primary beat reporter for the Marine Corps, you will be working closely with the video team to create multi-media projects and segments for a weekly TV show. You will also play a key role in shaping the Marine Corps Times’s growing social media channels.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter, multitasker and clear communicator who is dedicated to informing those in uniform while striving to enhance the American public’s understanding of military affairs and important national security issues. He or she must be focused and decisive during breaking news events, and adept at spotting the trends that yield deep, meaningful enterprise.

Previous experience in military reporting or military service is preferred but not required.

Job duties include:

  • Maintaining a network of sources to provide comprehensive coverage of the Marine Corps.
  • Aggressive coverage of breaking news.
  • Writing long-form enterprise stories.
  • Contributing to the newsroom’s coverage of the broader military community.
  • Developing and executing multimedia content.
  • Contributing to development of social media content and strategies
  • Serving as a subject-matter expert for live and recorded broadcast shows, both internally and for other major media outlines in the D.C. area

Located outside of Washington, D.C., the Military Times media network (Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times and Marine Corps Times) is an independent authority on the U.S. armed forces. We have a proud legacy of producing award-winning investigative journalism. Our reporters cover conflict and overseas contingency operations, military weapons and technology, policymaking at the Pentagon and military personnel issues. We advocate on behalf of rank-and-file service members and their families by asking tough questions of their leaders and aggressively holding to account those who break the rules.
