The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is looking for a leader to help guide its newsroom into the future. 


The Assistant Managing Editor of Digital will oversee the Post-Gazette’s digital team’s day-to-day operations, included content planning for all digital platforms (desktop, mobile web, apps and social media), overseeing digital design initiatives and scheduling.


The Assistant Managing Editor of Digital will lead a team of writers, editors and designers on daily coverage of the region’s news across all platforms and will work with senior newsroom management to develop new digital initiatives, special sections and other company priorities.


Job duties include:


  • Work with senior newsroom management to form the Post-Gazette’s overall editorial digital goals and strategy
  • Manage aspects of day-to-day editorial content, including planning coverage of breaking news events, special sections and interactives, enterprise projects and social media strategy
  • Attend daily editorial meetings to determine coverage across all platforms
  • Coordinate digital team scheduling
  • Implement SEO and social media best practices 
  • Track analytics to discover trends, set goals and measure effectiveness
  • Train newsroom on latest digital initiatives and trends




Must be comfortable leading and teaching the newsroom best practices

Experience as an editor or writer at a news organization that generates content under tight deadlines.

Must be a skilled writer/editor with outstanding communication skills.

Must be able to work early morning, night and weekend hours.

BS/BA degree, preferably in journalism.


Desired Characteristics:


Working knowledge of content management systems

Working knowledge of coding and web design

Experience with social media, video and other forms of multimedia

Desire to work in a creative, demanding, competitive environment

Excellent editing, writing and people skills

Basic project management skills

Knowledge of the Pittsburgh area and experience in a local news environment is a plus
