Description:

The Times-News is seeking a social media-savvy reporter who loves to write about food, art, music, culture and entertainment.

This reporter will lead our weekly Experience section devoted to all things fun in southern Idaho, including restaurant and product reviews, coverage of our vibrant performing arts scene and consumer-minded reporting on local shopping trends. This reporter will also champion our social media strategy, working with editors to drive digital traffic and connect with readers across all our social platforms.

The best candidates will be great writers with a knack for spotting stories that get people talking. We’re also looking for someone who will bring personality to our social media channels.

This position is the perfect job for new journalists working to become solid beat reporters or veterans who just want to tell great stories. We have an experienced editing staff, and the Times-News can be a training ground and stepping stone for ambitious journalists. Former Times-News reporters have been promoted within Lee Enterprises and have also gone on to the Chicago Tribune, Seattle Times and the Associated Press, to name a few.

We’re a mid-size daily paper that punches above its weight, covering some of the biggest stories in the state.

Twin Falls is the largest city in the Magic Valley, a broad section of southern Idaho with a population of about 185,000, and is growing fast. Chobani built the world’s largest yogurt factory here, and Clif Bar recently opened its first in-house bakery here. We are a family-friendly and affordable community with access to world-class skiing and the best trout stream in the West an hour drive from your front door, not to mention access to kayaking, hiking, biking, rock climbing and hunting in all directions.

With a surging economy and the population rising, new schools, restaurants and businesses are opening all the time. We are two hours from Boise and three hours from Salt Lake City.

To get this job, you’ll have a nose for news, sparkling clean writing and the skills to craft a lede that grabs readers and an ending that leaves them thinking about your story hours later.

A year or more of reporting experience at a daily or weekly is preferred, but exceptional students will be considered.

Photography and video experience is a plus.

Must be comfortable using social media that goes beyond simply posting stories but truly connects with readers.

Must be self-motivated, innovative and creative.

Must be able to manage multiple daily deadlines and multiple priorities while maintaining professionalism in the workplace.

Possess a bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field or equivalent experience.

The Times-News is a 17,500-circulation daily newspaper (21,500 on Sundays) owned by Lee Enterprises. It offers a competitive salary, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits, vacation, sick, holiday pay and 401K-retirement plan.

To apply, log on to www.magicvalley.com/workhere. Attach a cover letter, resume and at least three work samples that demonstrate a track record of success.

We are a drug-free workplace, and all applicants considered for employment must pass a post-offer drug screen and background prior to commencing employment. We are an equal opportunity employer.
