Sourcing Journal: Technology Editor

Sourcing Journal is looking for a savvy technology editor to cover the latest innovations and relevant technology for the apparel, textile and footwear industries across our family of industry publications, which today include Sourcing Journal, Vamp and Rivet.

As the technology editor, you’ll report to the editorial director. The ideal candidate for this role must have an eye for all things tech and the ability to suggest ideas for stories appropriate for our audience, which is made up of apparel and footwear industry executives, and see them through to publication. A strong preference will be given to candidates with technology media experience, especially as it pertains to breaking tech news, highlighting innovative new products or processes, and profiling startups.

The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of journalism experience as an editor. You're an enthusiastic team player who loves working in a fast-paced environment. You'll be expected to create clean copy, informative content (with an eye for SEO-friendly headlines and copy), and grow into an expert in the apparel and footwear related side of the technology industry. Daily and/or online publication experience preferred.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop fresh ways to look at technology and trends for feature and shorter-form articles
  • Collaborate with editorial director and associate publisher to execute on technology content for the publication
  • Research, report and write technology news stories, features and special projects
  • Identify companies that deserve more attention in the tech space and be one step ahead in terms of what’s around the bend for tech
  • Attend events on behalf of the company or editorial director as needed

Ideal candidates must have:

·        Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills

·        Ability to identify time sensitive technology news

·        Proven experience in writing both short news stories and long form features

·        Strong research skills, detail oriented

·        Ability to meet deadlines across a wide range of media channels

·        Ability to collaborate with editorial staff, sales, design and marketing teams

·        A clear understanding of the integrated nature of content and product across all channels, including but not limited to online, social media, magazines and events

·        An understanding of how a B2B audience differs from a consumer audience

·        Ability to self-educate by attending conferences, trade shows and reading trade journals


Ideal candidate must have some trade experience and be a fast study, eager to learn and looking for career advancement opportunities.
