WGME CBS 13/WPFO FOX 23, in Portland, Maine, is a trusted brand providing Maine families with local news, weather, sports, entertainment and social media content. We help grow the most talented people in television. You have the opportunity to work with a team filled with spirit, passion and imagination. We are currently seeking a part-time Web Content Specialist to work weekends 6AM – 12PM.

Position Responsibilities include:

  • Solid sense of what works on social media
  • Ability to tell the story with words and pictures
  • Flexibility and on-the-spot problem solving abilities are a must
  • Understand how to format stories for different platforms in order to give the viewer the best experience and maximize our digital assets
  • Solid news judgement
  • Be a compelling and accurate writer
  • Ability to multitask and manage time in order to maintain and update wgme.com and our social media assets
  • Ability to communicate clearly and be a champion for digital media initiatives
  • Ensure content is entered efficiently and accurately across all assigned projects
  • Proofread and copy edit websites, checking for spelling, grammar, and style errors as well as broken links
  • Update stories and breaking news to ensure the very latest content is on the web and social media pages
  • Post video to the web
  • Monitor user comments on station sites for inappropriate content
  • Set up and monitor live web stream of newscasts and other live events
  • Technical set up for school closings and alerts and election night web page

Required Experience:

  • At least 1-2 years of previous web producing experience at a news website preferred
  • Journalism degree preferred
  • Proficient with non-linear editing, photo editing software and newsroom systems such as iNews
  • An understanding of AP Style is a plus
  • Ability to maintain digital assets, archives, and edit systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to work comfortably across teams and respond to requests from multiple managers and departments
