The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal in Tupelo is looking for an intelligent, energetic and aggressive journalist to serve as our education reporter.

Candidates should be prepared to cover, report and write on education events and issues throughout Northeast Mississippi. Candidates will be asked to provide coverage of K-12 education trends and issues from a local, regional and state perspective. Some coverage of the University of Mississippi and Mississippi State University, as well as regional community colleges, also required. Previous reporters have used this position as an opportunity to deploy diligent, thoughtful reporting – combined with an active presence in the community and on social media – to make a lasting impact.

Education reporting is a key part of the Daily Journal’s historic mission to build community throughout Northeast Mississippi, a region that supports strong public schools. Candidates should have a vested interested in pursuing in-depth, solutions journalism that takes a deep dive into the issues facing schools, students, teachers and administrators. As a key part of our news team, candidates should be prepared to commit to impactful reporting in a state with unique challenges in education and in a region that has historically valued its public education system.

The Daily Journal is a 30,000-circulation locally owned newspaper focused on both print and digital growth. We offer a competitive pay and benefits package. Tupelo is a small city recognized as a model in national community development circles through the years. Tupelo, birthplace of Elvis, has more amenities than the typical city of 37,000 and is located within easy driving distance of Memphis and Birmingham and about an hour from both the University of Mississippi and Mississippi State University.
