The Richmond Times-Dispatch has an opening for a versatile, deadline-oriented copy editor. Our ideal candidate has strong news judgment and an analytical mind, as well as a love of language and current events. He or she also will have top-notch headline-writing talent, full knowledge of AP style and excellent fact-checking skills. Our editing team has a wide footprint, with an emphasis on news, enterprise and business reporting. We work closely with reporters, assigning editors and designers, so collaboration is crucial.

JOB DUTIES
• Edit and prosecute news, business and features stories, both locally written and taken from the wire
• Write engaging, keyword-filled headlines and other display type
• Assist in posting stories to the web
• Pull wire content and prepare it for publication
• Balance multiple assignments and priorities on deadline

REQUIREMENTS
• Copy editing experience at a daily newspaper is required; recent Dow Jones News Fund interns are encouraged to apply 
• Bachelor's degree in journalism, mass communications, English or related discipline
• Be a strong communicator, with excellent interpersonal skills, who works with team colleagues and newsroom departments in a professional manner to address questions and problems with content
• Able to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends
