WJAR NBC 10, Southern New England's News Leader, has an immediate opening for a part-time Weekend Assignment Editor/Associate Producer. The ideal candidate will be someone who lives and breathes breaking news and digital media. In this role, you will be responsible for assigning crews to gather day-to-day digital news content, preparing story items for presentation on NBC 10 and TurnTo10.com, and assist in the efficient operation of the assignment desk.

The successful candidate will manage all aspects of daily news coverage including, but not limited to:

  • Solid news judgment and the ability to write fast, accurate, and mistake-free copy
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment
  • Basic knowledge of digital platforms
  • Flexibility and on-the-spot problem solving abilities
  • Fill-in for Assignment Editors or Digital Editors as needed
  • Operate teleprompter as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required skills and qualifications include, but are not limited to:

  • A bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism, media, or a related area
  • Commitment to journalistic standards of ethics and accuracy
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • A positive, helpful, can-do attitude
  • Basic computer knowledge and word processing skills
  • Proficiency with Facebook, Twitter, and emerging social media
  • General knowledge and interest in local, national, and world news
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines

This position is part-time and will require working a flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
