Description:

The Chugiak-Eagle River Star is seeking a motivated and versatile journalist to work in our small but ambitious newsroom. The ideal candidate will have the ability cover a variety of beats, produce multimedia content across both print and online platforms and be comfortable juggling the myriad pressures of creating spot news and enterprise reporting in a small town. We're looking for someone who can write stories, take pictures, create short videos, tweet, post to instagram...in short, a little bit of everything. The job is fast-paced and diverse, with the opportunity to compile a huge number of clips on a wide variety of topics.

Chugiak-Eagle River is a unique and fiercely independent bedroom community of about 30,000 people located just 10 miles from Anchorage. Nestled at the foot of the Chugach Mountains, the area retains a semi rural flavor that's reinforced by stunning natural beauty and abundant wildlife (bears will definitely be one of your beats). For nearly five decades, the Star has been tireless in its coverage of the area. Our goal is to be the best weekly newspaper in Alaska and to provide the people of Chugiak-Eagle River a world-class news product both online and in print.

The Star is owned by Morris Communications, which offers an extensive benefits package, including medical coverage, dental coverage, flexible spending accounts, life insurance coverage for you, your spouse and/or children, short and long-term disability income protection programs and a 401(k) retirement savings account. Employees at Morris Communications enjoy a generous Paid Time Off (PTO) package, including holidays and personal days. We value our employees and provide an environment where you can be inspired to produce superior products and provide excellent customer service. Also, advanced learning opportunities are available for every employee so that you can develop and expand your skills and abilities.

Please send a resume, cover letter and clips to editor Matt Tunseth at editor@alaskastar.com
