Description:

GENERAL ASSIGNMENT REPORTER – Daytona Beach, Florida

The Daytona Beach News-Journal is seeking a high-energy, whip-smart reporter to join an aggressive newsroom team that’s hungry to make a difference in our corner of the world. This job will have freedom to pursue in-depth and investigative stories, with a special focus on local politics.

To be considered, you’ll need:

  • Strong writing skills.
  • An interest in data analysis.
  • Experience using social media and other digital tools.
  • A document-driven mindset adept at public records requests.
  • Experience in covering politics or local government is a plus.

To thrive in the job, you must be:

  • Creative and curious.
  • Undaunted by conventional wisdom.
  • Resolute and diligent in pursuit of a story.
  • Ambitious and self-motivated.

Daytona Beach is bordered by “The World’s Most Famous Beach” and surrounded by beautiful parks, waterways and cool things to do beyond the Daytona 500 and Bike Week.

While Daytona offers a high quality of life at a low cost of living, there’s also enough bizarre crime (we are in Florida, after all), corruption and sleaze to ensure no good reporter will ever be bored.

To apply, email a resume, cover letter and your three best writing samples to Managing Editor Derek Catron at derek.catron@news-jrnl.com. Put “GA reporter application” in the subject field.
