The New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung is seeking a reporter to help cover economic growth in one of the richest growth areas in the country, beautiful New Braunfels, TX.

New Braunfels is the second-fastest growing city in the United States. That’s no accident. Nestled between Austin and San Antonio on Interstate 35, the community benefits from its proximity to both while maintaining a unique identity all its own. Our goal is to evolve our family of products at the same pace as one of the most truly dynamic markets in both the nation and our great state of Texas. This includes having digital, mobile, social media and print as components to deliver our award-winning coverage. However, selected as AP's Newspaper of the Year, our specialty is delivering world-class coverage through the printed newspaper.

In addition to having great writing skills we need somebody who can turn a dull press release into a great feature story. Somebody whose interviewing skills can be put to the test by demonstrating a creative approach, which tackles from the everyday job to the most multifaceted task.You'll need to embrace online research and having a vision for presentation. InDesign skills could certainly be plus.

Essential duties of the job include but are not limited to:

  • Information gathering and research
  • Photography skills
  • Writing/developing feature stories
  • Accurately writing under pressure
  • Attend public meetings
  • Some evening hours and some weekends when required
  • Handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
  • You'll be required to file no less than 3 to 4 bylines daily

Must be able to develop public relations with nonprofits, clubs and organizations

The successful candidate will also be required to attend newsroom meetings, comply with assignments and develop a schedule. The ideal person will be a high-energy candidate, hard-working individual with excellent writing skills and a desire to work hard.
