The Managing Editor is a full time position that provides the day-to-day management and oversee the newsroom at our Perry, Georgia semi-weekly newspaper. The Houston Home Journal is the Houston County legal organ and is distributed Wednesday and Saturday of each week.

Candidate should possess proven record to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment, be self-directed and well-organized, excellent writing, editing, proofreading skills, high level of attention to detail under deadlines, ability to multi-task effectively and manage overlapping projects/assignments. Also, experience in communicating clearly, must be collaborative and a genuine team player and ensure content is produced on time, on budget and meets the established levels of quality to ensure editorial excellence.

Responsible for overseeing and directing the writing, editing and production of the semi-weekly newspaper and monthly magazines, working closely with news staff as well as the publication’s art/production/sales departments.

Qualifications:

Bachelor degree in journalism or related field; advanced degree a plus, at least 5 to 7 years editorial or communications experience, accomplished in Microsoft Word,  InDesign, Photoshop and social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Experience with layout, design and editing required. Demonstrated knowledge of AP Style is a plus as well as photography and video skills, but not required.
