The Daily Sentinel, a 22,000-circulation, award-winning newspaper in western Colorado, is looking for a hungry, enterprising reporter to cover business, economics and health.

We're seeking a self-starting, versatile journalist who will dig into a dynamic beat to produce an array of in-depth enterprise and trend pieces, profiles and features that will dominate Page One and anchor our twice-a-week business section and once-a-week health section. This position requires someone who can tackle complex issues and distill them into stories that matter to readers and identify trends and explain their impact. The story opportunities are abundant. Long dependent upon energy development for its financial fortunes, the Grand Valley is in the midst of a multi-faceted effort to diversify its economy, with a particular focus on outdoor recreation and tourism. And with four hospitals and a growing population of older residents, the valley serves a critical role as a regional provider of health care.

The position also involves some general assignment news reporting.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field. The reporter must have strong reporting and writing skills, be well-versed in AP style and be comfortable working in social media. The ability to shoot photos and video is a plus.

The Daily Sentinel is located in Grand Junction, the largest city between Denver and Salt Lake City and a regional hub for higher education, shopping, business, health care and transportation. The area offers an array of outdoor recreational opportunities.

The position offers a competitive salary, full benefits and a 401(k) plan.

Please note that The Daily Sentinel requires applicants to pass a drug screening test during the interview process.

Applicants should submit a resume, cover letter, references and writing samples to Managing Editor Mike Wiggins via email at No calls, please.
