Columbia College Chicagoan acclaimed higher education institution set in the heart of Chicago, with over 6,800 undergraduate and graduate students, offering a distinctive curriculum that blends liberal arts, creative and media arts and business.

The Communication Department at Columbia College Chicago seeks applicants for a full-time tenure track faculty position with expertise in communication and civic media beginning August 2017.

Primary responsibilities involve teaching three classes a semester in communication-related fields. Additional responsibilities include sustained engagement in research, creative and/or professional practice in communication or a communication-related field; advising students; serving on college-wide and departmental committees; contributing to curriculum development; contributing to community initiatives.

The faculty member will demonstrate a commitment to building sustainable models of communication that connect people and communities. A background in such areas as information literacy, media analysis, civic tech, and/or data-driven storytelling is highly desirable. The faculty member will have critical expertise in digital technologies, multiplatform content production, and emerging community forms.

The faculty member will contribute to the department's BA in Communication as well as a developing MA in Civic Media, both of which are critically engaged with building civic capacity and strengthening the regional information ecosystem.

The faculty member must hold a PhD in communication, journalism, public relations or a related field; a MA and significant professional experience in the media and communication industries is also acceptable. The faculty member must possess a high degree of critical competency to participate in partnerships with a broad range of media industries and civic agencies, and have a well-defined research agenda or history of critical practice.
