The Kentucky New Era, a family-owned, award-winning daily newspaper in Western Kentucky, is looking for an assistant sports editor to help us bolster our local prep coverage to join our lively newsroom.

With a daily circulation of 7,500 five days per week and a strong digital presence on the web and social media, the New Era is based in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, about an hour’s drive north of Nashville and next door to Fort Campbell, home of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Hopkinsville is less than a 30-minute drive to Land Between the Lakes, one of the premiere outdoor recreational areas in the South.

With a two-person sports department, we primarily cover eight high schools and youth athletics. We also follow five colleges — Austin Peay, Murray State, Western Kentucky, Louisville and the University of Kentucky. 



- Ability to work nights and weekends

- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or applicable field

- Ability to write well-crafted stories and edit copy on deadline

- Detailed knowledge of AP style

- Proficient at social media, including Facebook and Twitter

- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
