Description:

The Beaumont Enterprise is seeking an eager self-starter to contribute to both our print and growing digital platforms.

The Enterprise, the fifth-largest Hearst newspaper, has groomed journalists for metro papers all over the country, including sister papers in Houston (90 miles west), San Antonio and San Francisco.

The ideal candidate will have good communication and organization skills. S/he puts readers at the center of the equation, not just telling them what happened but how it happened and why they should care.

The Enterprise is a progressive, collaborative news operation focused on giving readers content that’s impactful and innovative, both online and in print. Creative and curious journalists thrive here. It also helps to have a good sense of humor.

Beaumont is 90 miles from Houston and four hours from New Orleans.

A quick email, resume, three of your best clips and a short list of references can be emailed to Managing Editor Ashley Sanders at Ashley.Sanders@BeaumontEnterprise.com. Please use the subject line: REPORTER (last name).

FAQ

Q: What is my beat?

A: General assignment until we decide together your reporting strengths.

Q: What's the newsroom like?

A: This is a teaching newsroom. Most reporters are right out of college or have been here less than two years. Those who work hard, listen and learn, generally move on to larger metro newsrooms within 18 months to two years. The culture of the newsroom is professional and collaborative, but we still like to cut up and have fun.

Q: What kinds of stories can I expect to cover?

A: It's Texas, which is only second to Florida in bizarre headlines. Big stories we've tackled in recent weeks include the tracking of a suspected bomber, the criminal indictments of several elected officials and the fallout from a university coach's firing. Oh, and we get hurricanes. (Translation: You'll have good clips if you come here.)
