The Acorn Newspapers, headquartered in Agoura Hills, Calif., is seeking a full-time reporter/writer to cover local government, K-12 education and other general assignments in the Moorpark area. The reporter would work out of the Acorn's Camarillo location. 

The candidate should be a self-starter with the ability to multitask and develop sources. Our reporters are independent and resourceful, can write both news and features, and regularly turn in seven to eight stories of varying lengths per week on deadline.

The ideal candidate:

  • has a bachelor's or master's degree in journalism
  • is experienced in community reporting
  • has excellent news judgment and newswriting skills
  • has a command of AP Style
  • can write CLEAN, CONCISE copy on deadline
  • has strong time management skills
  • can turn run-of-the-mill coverage into a compelling story
  • can keep an ear to the ground and pitch original story ideas

Some night and weekend work is required to cover city council meetings or other community events. Prior journalism experience is a MUST. Community news reporting experience is a plus.

Photography, InDesign, WordPress and social media (Facebook, Twitter) experience is a plus.
