Description:
The Nation Institute is seeking applicants for the Spira-Lopez Journalism Internship, which is for college students or graduates of Latino or Hispanic origin interested in magazine journalism and publishing. The Spira-Lopez Intern will work in conjunction with The Nation Institute Journalism Internship Program administered by The Nation Institute, located in New York City. Interns apprentice at The Nation magazine, where they check facts and conduct research in addition to performing administrative work. Applicants must be Latino or Hispanic, meaning a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Central or South American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race. Applicants must have completed their sophomore year of college, and will be evaluated on the basis of his or her résumé, recommendations and writing samples. The internship is full time, 10:00 to 6:00, five days a week. The Nation Institute provides a stipend of $150/ week. The Spring 2010 session begins January 5 and ends May 21, and the deadline for postmarked applications is November 16. Include a resume, two letters of recommendation and two writing samples. Published clips are preferred, though academic papers and creative writing samples are acceptable (no longer than eight pages, please).
