Description:
The Daily Inter Lake in Kalispell, Mont., is taking applications for two positions.

We need a business reporter who can join our staff immediately and can also handle page design and weekend editing duties. We also are hiring a police and courts reporter who can be on hand by Dec. 14 or sooner.

Experience is welcome; excellence is preferred. Can you report about local government without writing a meeting story? If so, we want to hear from you. Will you be able to ferret out features on your beat without being goaded? If so, we want to hear from you. The more you can do, the more we can use you.

The business reporter needs to write a weekly Sunday feature, plus do stories for the monthly Flathead Business Journal and keep up with breaking news. Friday and Saturday, you shift to the wire desk and work from 1 to 10 p.m. putting out the front page and most inside pages.

The police reporter can expect to cover everything from bear maulings to kidnappings. Next year, you will be hard at work covering the trial of a local politician who allegedly piloted his boat into the shore of Flathead Lake while Rep. Denny Rehberg was on board after attending a dinner with supporters. Alcohol was apparently involved, but the defense says the boat pilot was not impaired.

The Inter Lake is a 17,000 circulation paper in Northwest Montana. We are located next to Glacier National Park and also enjoy two ski resorts and many lakes in the area. Because we are a vacation destination, we have many amenities and amusements not typical of small towns.

Our news team consists of 17 people who are dedicated to turning out a professional product day after day at the highest standard. We enjoy working here and we enjoy the area, which is why many of us have been on the staff for 10 or more years. We would like to see applications from all qualified journalists regardless of what you did in your current or last job. Tell us what makes you the perfect person to be the next star in our newsroom.

Respond online at journalismjobs.com or by e-mailing cover letter, resume and work samples to Managing Editor Frank Miele at edit@dailyinterlake.com. Sorry, but we can only contact the top few applicants to discuss the jobs in detail. Thanks.
