225 Magazine is the leading arts, entertainment and lifestyle magazine in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It is part of a national award-winning publishing group called Louisiana Business Inc. LBI is closely held and has been a leader in print in Baton Rouge for 32 years. 225 Magazine is dedicated to high quality journalism and graphics showcasing the great things about Baton Rouge and South Louisiana: the food, the music, the culture and the colorful people who call Lousiana home.


225 Magazine is seeking an editor to continue the established, successful formula of crisp writing and outstanding photographs that have been the hallmark of the publication since its inception in 2005. The new editor will also to take the publication in new directions. Visit to get a feel for what we do.


225 Magazine’s readership is diverse but skews toward a younger demographic. Our readers are very interested in their community, particularly as it relates to food and fun. Our readers are also keenly interested in the arts and anything related to the outdoors.


Baton Rouge is Louisiana’s second largest city and home to two major universities (Southern University and LSU). Baton Rouge is also the seat of state government. Baton Rouge and the region are currently experiencing unprecedented growth in economic activity and population. Situated on the Mississippi River in the heart of the state, Baton Rouge is just over an hour’s drive from the French Quarter in New Orleans. Less than an hour to the east is Lafayette, another thriving cultural hub.


The editor of 225 Magazine works with a staff of two full-time employees and a roster of proven freelance writers, copy editors and photographers. The editor is expected to constantly find fresh voices for the magazine and new ways to express the essence of the city’s culture and life style.


Major functions:


Generate story ideas and keep story budgets full for at least the next quarter.

Manages the human resources that feed the magazine.

Keeps in constant communication with writers, photographers and the in-house production staff.

Demonstrates leadership skills and the ability to motivate staff and freelancers.

Shows a keen appreciation for what makes Baton Rouge special and constantly finds innovative ways to bring those traits to the reader in compelling ways.

Meets regularly with staff and outside talent to keep everyone on track.

Is always on the lookout for new talent.

Is the public face of the magazine.


Job specifications


Superior judgment as to quality in writing and photography.

Education: Journalism degree or equivalent experience.

Experience: Minimum five years in print.

Must be able to communicate effectively to help writers and photographers improve their work.

Must display excellent judgment as regards completeness of coverage, fairness, accuracy, depths, ethics, newsworthiness and relevance to readers.
