Position: Writer

Location: Houston, Texas

Salary: Competitive salary and benefits package based on qualifications


Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee print and digital communications, including press releases, solution papers, policy perspectives, written public testimony, memorandums, electronic communications, and content for the LJAF website
  • Review, edit, and revise internal and external communications
  • Work with LJAF staff members in all issue areas to produce written communications

Essential Skills, Experience, and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Extensive writing and editing experience
  • Knowledge of AP Style
  • Ability to evaluate complex information and provide communications recommendations
  • Ability to appreciate and analyze both the broad framework and specific details of a variety of ideas and projects
  • Ability to interface with all levels of staff, including senior management, the Director of Communications, and the LJAF Board of Directors

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum three years of experience as a professional writer, journalist, or in a related communications role
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field
