Description:

The Oakland Tribune seeks an experienced reporter to cover Oakland city government and news generated from the city’s three sports teams and community groups. The city of Oakland is among the most diverse and challenging cities in the Bay Area. The ideal candidate has at least three years experience covering cities or other government agencies and has the ability to do breaking news as well as enterprise.

 

Candidates should have strong writing skills and must have the ability to look at the news of the day and be able to put it into perspective for online and print. Covering night city council and committee meetings is a must. Local knowledge is an advantage.

 

Candidates must be skilled in social media, including Twitter and Facebook, and be willing to learn and use new digital technology such as Tout video. Knowledge of AP style is preferred.

 

The Oakland Tribune is part of Bay Area News Group, which includes the Contra Costa Times, Oakland Tribune and San Jose Mercury News.
