The Killeen Daily Herald, APME Newspaper of the Year in two of the past three years, is looking for a reporter/community editor to add to a very talented staff.

This position is responsible for planning and covering police/fire, municipal government, courts, as well as local events, for the weekly and also contributing to our seven-day 18,000 daily. We have three weeklies in neighboring communities in addition to the daily. The right candidate will have the ability to cover hard news as well as craft a well-written feature. Responsibilities range from covering and photographing the most routine community news to schools, law enforcement and government issues and events. Must have ability to use a video camera and shoot your own photos to go with your stories if needed.

Candidates must be organized self-starters who understand community journalism, meet deadlines, and understand the necessity of balance, accuracy and clear writing. We prefer candidates to have 2-3 years of experience, but college graduates with a solid history of college newspaper experience or internships are also encouraged to apply. Knowledge, initiative and ideas for making our websites a primary information source is a plus.
