The Davis Enterprise is looking for an energetic associate editor to join an experienced, supportive team on the best small community newspaper in California. The full-time opening would include editing, page layout and design, intern supervision and occasional writing.
Successful applicants will show an ease at working under deadline pressure, designing pages, handling various personalities and putting in long hours. A bachelor's degree in journalism is preferred. Journalism experience will count in place of a degree.
In addition, applicants should be comfortable working with InDesign and WordPress and have a solid grasp of AP Style. The associate editor is responsible for maintaining the arts section — including editing, assigning photos and designing pages — as well as laying out and designing other A-section pages. Applicants should have leadership experience and be comfortable multi-tasking. The associate editor coordinates and organizes the internship program throughout the year. In addition, during vacation times, the associate editor becomes the main news editor, overseeing the editorial operations and staff.
