Summary

The Afternoon News Anchor/Reporter is responsible for newscasts and other news-related segments during the Afternoon News Block and is capable of anchoring live, special coverage.  This person is also a General Assignment reporter, producing spot and feature stories and newsmaker interviews for CapRadio, Capital Public Radio Network (CPRN) and for national distribution.  The AR helps maintain CapRadio’s digital news presence during the afternoon and has a strong understanding of digital and social media.  The AR will conduct “live” debrief segments that will satisfy the format requirements. This will include planning with reporters for debriefs on significant news stories. 

 

Duties

Job responsibilities include anchoring local newscasts during Afternoon News Block, producing own news copy and rewriting copy produced by wire services and CapRadio reporters, covering breaking news by updating newscasts, producing spot and feature length stories as well as two-ways for airing on CapRadio’s newsmagazine and talk shows and on capradio.org, creating content for digital platforms, including social media sites, regularly contributing segment ideas to the Insight talk show. Appears as guest on Insight and contributes to other CapRadio shows as needed.

 

Qualifications

Minimum five years full-time professional, progressively responsible experience in radio news.  A four-year degree or equivalent experience required. Advanced journalism and broadcasting skills. Experience anchoring a daily news presentation and demonstrated ability to work within a live program environment, advanced reporting abilities; must be able to produce material of NPR style and quality. Strong on-air presence, keen news judgment; high level radio journalism abilities, team player; computer literate; familiar with technology platforms and ways to utilize them in reporting projects and on-air.
