POLITICO is seeking a Managing Editor for News. This is an intense, stimulating job for a seasoned, smart and multitalented editor whose mission is to make sure that night and day, POLITICO is enticing readers with high impact journalism that sets the standard in coverage of Washington and politics.
The managing editor should be an important collaborative force in our newsroom with a gift for turning stories into compelling reads on tight deadlines.
This person should have the background and people skills to succeed as a leader of a fast-growing, cutting-edge publication. Specifically, this person will oversee the work of a large team of reporters and editors. In addition to identifying journalistic targets and lifting stories, the Managing Editor should have a keen eye for coordinating work on multiple platforms to best present and package our journalism and to help make sure our journalism breaks through to a wide audience. Strong organizational skills are a must. This person should also be deft at identifying and managing talent, and looking around corners in a very competitive coverage landscape in Washington.
Deep experience in coverage of politics, Congress and the White House; exceptional writing and editing skills; impeccable news judgment; a sure handed ability to thrive and excel under intense deadline pressure and a passion for journalism and politics.
