Located in the Upstate region of South Carolina at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Spartanburg offers a little bit of everything. The city is home to six colleges, a chiropractic college and a new medical school. The recently completed $47 million Chapman Cultural Center is the hub for a vibrant arts and theater community, and Spartanburg was the Palmetto State’s first bicycle-friendly city, as designated by the League of American Bicyclists. Each summer, the Carolina Panthers hold training camp here. The area also is home to numerous international businesses, including BMW’s North American manufacturing facility and the headquarters of Denny’s and Advance America.

During each of the last four years, the Herald-Journal has been honored to win the S.C. Press Association President’s Cup, which recognizes overall excellence in its given circulation category. And, in 2012, staffers took first-place in the state press association’s reporting in-depth category for their coverage of a miniature train derailment that injured 28 people and killed a 6-year-old child.

The Herald-Journal is owned by Daytona Beach, Fla.-based Halifax Media Group, which consists of 33 newspapers and affiliated websites in five states.
