Job Purpose: A person in this position supervises the people and/or processes that are involved in gathering, editing and producing news reports for multiple platforms and products. The work is primarly a nighttime job supervising production of the daily local news report. Scope: Editors interact with people in every part of newsroom as well as with key staff members in other departments at the newspaper. They must also be connected with members of the community and news sources. Principal Functions Essential To The Job: Edits content §Oversee team members to create quality stories and content. §Work with photographers, artists, layout to ensure that stories are presented well. §Edit stories for accuracy, fairness, balance. §Create new local content for multiple platforms. §Ensure local content is posted/published to all platforms immediately or by deadline. §Work with freelance contributors and user-contributed copy to coordinate the inclusion of content from other sources in products. Innovate products and processes §Initiates and/or encourages implementation of innovative ideas for products and/or services. §Draws upon diverse sources to generate ideas for innovative approaches to new or existing products. §Takes and encourages others to take smart risks. §Initiates and/or implements process improvements within teams or work groups. §Communicates effectively about proposed process changes with key stakeholders. §Implements broader departmental plans, goals and strategy. Community relations §Makes community/audience needs a primary focus when developing new plans and products. §Develops broad, diverse network of contacts across the communities we serve. §Set high standards for community engagement and satisfaction and track performance. §Builds trust and credibility with readers and news sources. §Responds promptly and appropriately to inquiries and complaints. §Communicates and model the vision and values of the organization. §Represents the organization effectively in all external interactions.
