Description:

We are seeking an aggressive, skilled reporter with a passion for journalism to cover crime in beautiful Central Virginia. We don't want a stenographer. We want a journalist who can speak the language of cops but translate it into the language of readers. We want a journalist who understands the basics of crime reporting, knows how to build sources along with strong relationships and trust and gets it right. We want a journalist who's committed to the craft and ready to respond to high expectations. We want a journalist who knows how to win. Charlottesville is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains and home to the University of Virginia with attractions ranging from Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson, to a rich night life, featuring such attractions as the locally based Dave Matthews Band along with a host of other national and local acts. If you're a serious journalist ready to push yourself and us toward greatness, we want to hear from you. This is not a job for those who've always wanted to try newspapers. It is a job for people who see journalism as a calling. Send a cover letter, resume and three samples of your best work to Managing Editor Lee Wolverton at lwolverton@dailyprogress.com or The Daily Progress, 685 West Rio Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901. Subject lines in emails should read, "Crime Reporter."
