Description: The New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung, an award-winning South Central Texas daily newspaper, is looking for a talented copy editor/page designer. The Herald-Zeitung has won 80 Texas APME awards during the last three years, and is a three-time APME Newspaper of the Year winner during the last decade — including being the current title holder. The copy editor/page designer job is a 3 p.m.-to-midnight position, Tuesdays through Saturdays. It's not strictly an at-the-desk job; reporting opportunities will be available occasionally. The ideal candidate: • Will have daily newspaper experience both editing copy and designing pages. Recent college graduates will be considered only if they worked on their college newspaper staff AND completed an internship at a daily newspaper. • Will have an exceptional eye for accuracy. This newspaper practices journalism at a very high level; there's no room for errors — big or small. • Will have a powerful grasp of AP style and effective copy-editing skills. The copy editor portion of this position requires an all-star. If copy editing isn't your strong suit, this isn't the job for you. • Will have a working knowledge of QuarkXPress or Adobe InDesign. You don't have to be the world's greatest page designer. It certainly helps if you are, but we can train you on that portion of the job. • Will have a desire to be a team player, the creativity to do ground-breaking journalism and the goal of making a very good newspaper a great newspaper.
