The Williston Herald in Williston, ND has an opening for an aggressive reporter with excellent writing skills. Williston is in the very heart of this nation’s largest oil boom in a half century and is a rich environment for hard-hitting news and features.

Williston sits atop the Bakken oil reserve in northwest North Dakota. The state is second only to Texas in oil production and is one of the fastest-growing regions in the United States. The fast-paced growth and development is perfect for a reporter who craves both hard news and feature stories about everything from politics, oil, agriculture and the people who have helped shaped this rapid-growth area.

The Williston Herald is a 6-day a week paper with a circulation of 4,500, but an online reach of more than 200,000 a month. The Herald also publishes a monthly glossy magazine on the oil industry.

Williston is located near the scenic North Dakota Badlands and Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It offers great quality of life and excellent recreational opportunities.

Applicants must:

• Have a journalism degree, or similar, from a four-year college.

• Be able to write under tight deadlines, and do so in proper AP style.

• Be a motivated, self-starter who can produce award-winning ideas.

• Be competitive and able to cover breaking news for the web, and produce an extended story with fresh material for the print edition.

• Be well-versed in social media, blogs, and other forms of digital communication, with a strong knowledge of how it can translate into a newsroom.

• Have a valid driver’s license, a driving record that is insurable by the company and a reliable source of transportation.

• Applicants with design, photography and/or video experience will be given preference.
