Job Description:

The award-winning Sentinel of Carlisle, Pa., (circ. 15,000) has an opening for a sports editor who's ready to step in and lead our team of full- and part-time reporters and correspondents.

We cover 15 high schools, Penn State football and three local colleges ' Shippensburg University, Dickinson College and Messiah College ' plus local auto racing and youth sports. And in a highly competitive market, we want to keep readers coming to us first in print and online for local sports news and features.

This position requires a supervisor who can make sound decisions quickly, communicate well, train and coach reporters, edit copy and produce attractive pages on deadline using InDesign. The sports editor is also a key player on the news team responsible for developing strategy and content for our Web site. Experience with InDesign or similar a desktop publishing software is required.

Applicants must have, as a minimum, a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and three years on a daily newspaper of general circulation. Management experience is required.

The Sentinel is an a.m. paper, seven days a week.

Carlisle is close enough to Baltimore, Philly and D.C. for day trips and down the road from Harrisburg, the state capital. New York City and Pittsburgh are just a few more hours away.
