The Gazette, publisher of community weeklies and websites in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., has an opening for a general assignment reporter to cover the city of Bowie out of its Prince George’s County, Md., newsroom.

Duties include covering news events, meetings and writing features.

We’re looking for reporters who has a passion for community journalism can develop and work with sources to uncover stories and produce enterprising reports for weekly print and daily online packages. Our reporters are expected to regularly demonstrate vision and understanding of news events and suggest story ideas and multimedia packages. Bowie, one of the largest municipalities in Prince George’s County’s, is a thriving, diverse community located in the center of the county.

Covering the city offers an energetic reporter a prime opportunity to gain experience and to hone skills in covering hard news, government issues and features.

Requirements include at least two years reporting experience for a newspaper, along with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, or related field or a combination of education and experience. The Bowie reporter should expect some evening and weekend work.
