Description:
The Targeted Periodicals department of the Medical Research unit of Wolters Kluwer develops and produces print and electronic newspapers and magazines, for academic institutions, physician specialty groups, and medical societies. Currently, the New York City office is searching for an Editorial Assistant to join its group to work on the leading biweekly newspaper for neurologists on brain research, health policy, and professionalism issues, and a bimonthly magazine for neurology patients and their caregivers.

The Editorial Assistant's responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

Conducting interviews, researching, and writing news briefs and longer features, as needed, for the print publications and Web sites

Scanning journals, Web sites and newspapers to identify potential stories of interest and other sources as identified for the publications

Performing proofreading, research, copy-editing, fact-checking, and production related duties Securing and maintaining excellent production values for art and graphics for the title.

Maintaining a subject index and database of interviewees for all articles

Providing administrative and editorial support to the neurology editors and other editors in the Targeted Periodicals department, as needed

Perform other job functions as assigned by the manager or department head.

The Successful Editorial Assistant will have strong verbal and communication skills, be a motivated self-starter, feel comfortable working independently, be organized, detail-oriented, and be a flexible team player who can handle a fast pace and multiple assignments. This position involves both strong editorial skills and administrative support. This is an opportunity to learn about all phases of editorial production - from concept to finished product.

A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science is required; knowledge and experience in word processing programs. Writing samples, particularly in health and science, a plus.
