Northern Virginia newspaper seeks an aggressive editor with the ability to produce compelling content for newspaper, online, and niche publications that will grow our audience in a competitive market. Editor must want to lead and motivate a staff in a fast-paced multimedia newsroom. This position directly oversees reporters and photographers and further plays a key role in leading community conversation with readers on topics of importance through the writing of editorials and online conversations. The editor must possess strong leadership skills, be innovative and understand how to reach target audiences. Candidates should have a proven record of accomplishment in producing a quality news product. The position requires a team player who can work with other departments.

Responsibilities: • Provide day-to-day leadership and management to publish news and information. • Takes a leading role in community’s online conversation, including maintaining an online persona and making regular contributions and interactions with readers. • Manages areas of news, community conversation, sports, and photo to ensure the production of interesting and accurate news reporting. • Maintains a local editorial board of residents to assist in development of local editorials. • Applies knowledge of the news, community, government, local business and area residents in producing the newspaper and ancillary publications • Responsible for training, coaching and motivating employees • Participates as a member of the newspaper management team that directs and markets the newspaper and its ancillary products Qualifications: • B.A. or B.S. degree from accredited college or university • 5-7 years newspaper experience, including 2-3 years involving employee management
