Description:
The Mansfield (OH) News Journal seeks an aggressive managing editor with the ability to produce compelling content for daily newspapers, online, non-daily and niche publications that will grow our audience in a competitive market. The managing editor has a critical role in leading the local Information Centers for Mansfield News Journal and the Bucyrus Telegraph-Forum, as well as the NNCO North night-time operations including consolidated online and copy desks. This position further plays a key role in leading a community conversation with readers on topics of importance through the writing of editorials and online conversations. The editor must possess strong leadership skills, be innovative and understand how to reach target audiences. Candidates should have a proven record of accomplishment in producing a quality news product. The position requires a team player who can work with other departments and other Gannett newspapers on group projects.

• Executes the editorial mission of the paper through the directing the day-to-day operation of the information center and provides leadership and coaching to ensure sound journalistic practices, ethical standards and application of the First Amendment. • Publish news and information on the best available platform as quickly as manageable. • Work with senior editors to ensure flawless work by group copy and online desks charged with final publication of content for local site. • Maintains a local editorial board of residents to assist in development of several local editorials per week. Writes at least three local editorials per week and manage content for daily opinion page with divergent opinions. • Applies knowledge of the news, community, government, local business and area residents in producing the daily newspaper and ancillary publications • Participates as a member of the newspaper management team that directs and markets the newspaper and its ancillary products • Prepares financial budget for department and closely monitors its progress • Performs other duties as assigned • B.A. or B.S. degree from accredited college or university • 5-7 years newspaper experience, including 2-3 years involving employee management • This individual directly supervises 5 employees
