We are Seeking writing Interns for the Summer Season of 2014 on Martha’s Vineyard.

All internships are part time and unpaid however you will have plenty of time to gain paying employment at any of the many restaurants on the island. This Week on Martha’s Vineyard is a weekly entertainment newspaper currently running strong for 15 years and gets published 14 times/season. We cover a variety of topics important to tourists visiting the island such as: Activity spotlights, things to do at night, music and restaurant reviews, arts and antiques, shopping, fishing report, and human interest pieces that relate to subjects on the island. We have used interns over the years to offer a fresh perspective to our publication. All of our interns improved their writing skills and developed their own style of writing by the end of their internship program. This is NOT an internship where you will be stuffing envelopes and performing other menial tasks. Your articles WILL be published every week for fourteen issues as well as read by over ten thousand people each week. In addition, at least once during your internship, you will preform as the Assistant Editor position where you will work closely with the Publisher, Graphic Designer, Editor and other interns to help produce an issue. This has been proven very useful as you will have hard copies of the issues to take with you to show future employers/schools. Also, many of our interns have earned school credits for this internship and we are happy to meet the requirements your school may have to earn these credits. This is an unpaid internship, however in the past virtually all of our interns have obtained other full time work in restaurants or other establishments on the island. (This Week can help you out with this as most of the islands restaurants are also clients). We will work with you as much as possible to accommodate your schedule. Our interns report having the best summer of their lives while gaining some very valuable experience and that having their work published was a great help to them in their future job procurement. I hope this gives you an understanding of our internship program. We are seeking candidates who have one or more of the following skills: writing, photography, editing, and design layouts.

Please be specific in the area you are most proficient in and let us know if you have had any experience working with a high school/college newspaper. Please send a cover letter, resume, and a recent writing sample(s)/ designs to: along with any further questions concerning the position. Please put ‘M.V. Summer Intern 2014’ in the subject title of your email.
