NHK, Japan’s national broadcaster, is offering competitive part-time and full-time internships at its Washington DC Bureau to undergraduates, graduate students, and recent college grads. This is a fantastic opportunity for students looking to build a solid foundation upon which to start their careers in journalism.
Unpaid positions are currently open for the upcoming semester. Duties include administrative support (e.g. transcribing interviews and soundbites), news-gathering, and production assistance both in the bureau and the field. Excellent communication and writing skills are necessary, as well as a “nose for news” – we want students with a true understanding of the DC news cycle. Japanese is not required, but familiarity with Japanese culture is a plus. We are especially interested in hearing from candidates who are self-starters, and can seek out ways to help our correspondents and producers hit their daily and long-term reporting targets.
Preference will be given to candidates who can receive academic credit.
Please send a resume and cover letter explaining why you’d like to be a part of our team to firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. No calls, please.
