The Palo Alto Weekly operates an internship program for students whose academic program in school will benefit from a first-hand experience in journalism, graphic design and production, web publishing, or in media sales, marketing and promotions. We are currently accepting applications for fall internships.
The goal of our program is to provide training and experience to students who are interested in careers in media or who want to learn about the media profession. Interns work under the direction of an editor and assist with research, data collection and entry, interviews, fact-checking and reporting of news stories. Interns attend editorial and story meetings, assist reporters with event and meeting coverage and are assigned to write news and feature stories as appropriate to their skills. Interns also prepare content for special publications and assist in preparing online news stories and shooting video of breaking news events. Some routine beat checks and administrative or clerical tasks are required. Interns with special interest in sports or arts and entertainment will be assigned to assist in these areas when possible. Strong writing skills are required.
Our internship program accepts currently enrolled high school juniors through university graduate students and are unpaid. Interns must be sponsored by a teacher, advisor or other school official, to whom we will provide a final evaluation of the student’s internship.
Interested applicants should send a resume and writing samples to Elena Kadvany, Editorial Assistant and Intern Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
