emPower, an online magazine that not only discusses social issues affecting people of color, but also challenges readers to take action, is looking to fill three internship positions: Editorial, Social Media & Multimedia.

EDITORIAL

As an editorial intern, your role will include writing and reporting for the web; and researching social issues relevant to the magazine for in depth, investigative stories. Interns will be expected to submit weekly. 

All candidates should possess (or currently pursuing at the sophomore, junior or senior level) a degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Film or English and have an interest in socially-conscious topics/issues. Candidates must be committed, responsible and highly organized. Intern must have flawless grammar and spelling skills, be detail and deadline-oriented. Experience working for a college newspaper or previous internship is desired. Positions demand attention to detail and the ability to work independently. Have excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

This is a telecommuting/virtual internship, which will require between 6-12 hours per week, including weekly Skype conference calls and monthly in-person meetings. Candidate does not have to live in the Washington DC area. 

SOCIAL MEDIA/MARKETING

Your role is to regularly updating and monitoring all of emPower magazine's social media sites (such as Facebook and Twitter); writing blog posts; and helping create online media strategies to educate the public about emPower magazine and its mission. Other duties include: crafting press releases, researching and corresponding with potential partners and sponsors, email marketing, creating and updating media list, developing marketing campaigns, helping market emPower events.

All candidates should possess (or currently pursuing at the junior or senior level) a degree in Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations have an interest in socially-conscious topics/issues. Candidates must be committed, responsible and highly organized. Positions demand attention to detail and the ability to work independently. Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

MULTIMEDIA

Multimedia interns will help produce video, audio and photo stories for the web; and researh social issues relevant to the magazine for in depth, video packages.

 

All candidates should possess (or currently pursuing at the junior or senior level) a degree in Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations have an interest in socially-conscious topics/issues. Candidates must be committed, responsible and highly organized. Positions demand attention to detail and the ability to work independently. Have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience shooting film, using video editing software, and producing multimedia packages are strongly desired.

This is a telecommuting/virtual internship, which will require between 6-12 hours per week, including weekly Skype conference calls and monthly in-person meetings. All candidates must be in the Washington DC Metro Area.
