Position Summary:

Spectrum, a leader in health and science communications, is looking for creative, outside-the-box thinkers who are either in school for traditional or digital media or are a post-graduate looking to gain experience in a fast-paced, but highly-rewarding environment. The ideal candidate will be a hard working, self-motivated individual with an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for all things health care and communications. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Spectrum team and bring value to our clients, new business prospects and marketing initiatives. Interns will have the opportunity to learn and gain practical experience of the strategies and tactics of today’s communications industry, including traditional, digital and social media platforms.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and deliver daily media auditing, trafficking and reporting (via Google, Factiva, Technorati and other tools) to internal and external audiences.
  • Serve as a member of agency account teams conducting research, media audits, writing projects, media/blogger outreach and a range of other tasks.
  • Support new business efforts through research and other activities using traditional and digital and social media listening tools and platforms.
  • Assist with office administrative functions.
  • Enhance Spectrum’s marketing and promotional activities by writing monthly posts for The Full Spectrum Blog.
  • Assist with strategic planning for a variety of client accounts, incorporating traditional, digital and social media strategies and tactics.



Required Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Passion for all things health, science and media.
  • Eagerness to jump in on projects where needed, including pitching media/bloggers, research and writing.
  • Baseline knowledge and experience with digital platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.
  • Strong attention to detail, dependability and willingness to work to a short deadline.
  • Ability to supply account teams with background information and research on applicable projects, clients, etc.
  • Ability to multi-task, work individually or in a team atmosphere.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to handle various projects simultaneously.
  • Self-directed, eager to meet and exceed objectives and excited to take on more responsibility.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office.


Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Knowledge and expertise in research tools including Cision, Factiva and LexisNexis.
  • An interest and knowledge of healthcare trending topics.
  • Immersion in digital platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Wikipedia, RSS, etc.
  • Knowledge of blogosphere and/or blogging platforms like WordPress.
  • Experience with development of multi-media content (audio/video production, HTML, Flash, etc.).


Preferred Program:Public relations, communications, journalism, new/digital media and/or health-related studies.


Preferred Status:Junior or above.
